Disappointment in Droves
I’ve been rather disappointed in Garfield recently. It’s lost its edge. It’s become what its critics maintain it always was – gutless.
I don’t listen to the haters. I always ask myself, “Do I not like this?” The intentions of the creator is irrelevant, as long as the end product is good. And who cares what others think, anyway? Who lives or dies because somebody puts profit over art?
Garfield’s critics claim it was always a gutless cynical audience-exploiting cash-cow created for the sole purpose of generating mass profits, but I say hey, so were the Rolling Stones. It’s not high art, it’s entertainment. Lighten up. There’s plenty of room in this world for art AND entertainment.
But still – I’ve more or less stopped reading Garfield, and I’ll be having the tattoo removed shortly.
